Spectroscopic study of the hydrogen bond in salts of amino acids and amino alcohols

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Salts of amino acids with alkylsulfonic acids form dimers in nonpolar solvents. In the case of α-amino acids, the carboxyl groups form a mutual H-bond, with NH3 + and SO3 . ε-Amino acids associate just like carboxylic acids.

  2. 2.

    The OH groups of salts of amino alcohols form cyclic dimers, which dissociate into the monomers in CHCl3 through the open dimers. In CCl4, the cyclic dimer breaks down immediately into two monomers. The thermodynamic characteristics of the H-bond were determined, and their dependence upon the dipoledipole interactions of ion pairs was studied.
