Investigation of the anisotropy of the polarizability and steric structure of certain compounds of the bicyclo[4,1,0] heptane series

Conclusions

The dipole moments and molar Kerr constants were measured at infinite dilution of cyclohexene oxide, the thiooxides of ethylene, propylene, and cyclohexane, norcarane, and its 7, 7-dichloro- and 7, 7-dibromo-derivatives in carbon tetrachloride.

    On the basis of a comparison of the experimental Kerr constants and the values calculated for the possible conformers, as well as the calculated energies of the conformers, conclusions were drawn on the steric structure of the investigated compounds of the norcarane series.

  2. 3.

    On the basis of the measured Kerr constants and dipole moments of ethylene and propylene thiooxides, we calculated the value of the axis of the ellipsoid of polarizability of the thiooxide ring, coinciding with the axis of symmetry.
