Kinetics of the extraction of nickel with 8-hydroxyquinoline

    The kinetics of the extraction of nickel (II) by solutions of 8-hydroxyquinoline in chloroform at 15 and 25° was studied. The composition of the compounds extracted at 25° was determined on the basis of the equilibrium data obtained. The rate of extraction is determined by the rate of addition of the second 8-hydroxyquinoline molecule to the nickel ion (15°).

    In a study of the extraction of nickel hydroxyquinolinate with benzene, it was shown that benzene possesses lower extraction capacity with respect to nickel hydroxyquinolinate, in comparison with chloroform at the same nickel concentrations.

  3. 3.

    The use of isoamyl alcohol leads to high distribution coefficients, which is explained by direct participation of the solvent in the formation of the compound to be extracted.
