Conclusions

  1. 1.

    We have studied polarographic reduction ofπ-C5H5W(CO)3 compounds containing W-metal, W-halogen, and W-carbonσ-bonds.

  2. 2.

    The ease of reduction ofπ-C5H5M(CO)3 compounds, M(=Cr, Mo, W) containing M-M or M-halogen bonds decreases as we go from Cr to W, while that for W-halogenσ-bonds decreases in the order W-I > W-Br > W-C1.

  3. 3.

    The speed of an electrochemical reaction depends on the stability of the (Rθ, Xθ) anion formed by addition of an electron to the σ-bonded group.
