Optical waveguides on SiO2 substrates prepared by Pb−Si counterdiffusion

Abstract

Surface layers of the optimal composition of PbO0.5SiO2 0.5 were prepared on fused quartz substrates by Pb-Si counterdiffusion and their properties were studied experimentally. Prism coupling experiments have shown that these layers can be used as low-mode optical waveguides of good quality.
