Generating functional for the average field in quantum electrodynamics with an unstable vacuum

Abstract

The generating functional for calculating the average field in the case of an unstable vacuum in quantum field theory is proposed. A continuous representation is found for the generating functional of the average field in the case of quantum electrodynamics with an external field, generating electron-positron pairs out of the vacuum.
