A method is proposed for construction of mean values of quantum quantities in quantum optics and electrodynamics on the basis of exact solutions of the corresponding problems of electrodynamics with an external field. To illustrate the method the mean energy of a two-level atom in the Raby problem is calculated. It is shown that the mean value obtained with a specified accuracy coincides with the result of exact quantum electrodynamic calculation.
