Conclusions

  1. 1.

    A study of the rearrangement of the heptamethylbenzenonium ion using the double nuclear magnetic resonance method confirmed the conclusion drawn earlier, that this rearrangement is accomplished by an intramolecular 1,2-shift of the CH3 groups.

     
  2. 2.

    There are practically no direct transfers of the migrating CH3 group farther than to the next ring carbon atom.
