    The dinitrate ofα,α′-dihydroxymethyl ether was synthesized and characterized.

  2. 2.

    The thermal decomposition of this compound in the gas phase, and also in the liquid state at temperatures above 60°, proceeds by a radical mechanism, with primary cleavage of the O-NO2 bond.
