Adsorption phenomena in the system of methylene blue and its leuko form

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    In the reversible redox system of methylene blue and its leuko form, both components of the reaction are adsorbed on a mercury electrode.

  2. 2.

    The dependence of the total coverage of the electrode by the two components of the reaction on the potential is evidence of double layer coverage of the surface in the region of potentials of the limiting current of the prewave.

  3. 3.

    The cause of the appearance of the prewave is the formation of a complex with charge transfer between the molecules of the oxidized and reduced forms.

  4. 4.

    The reversibility of the system is confirmed by the data of capacitance measurements.
