Conclusions

1. Three methods were proposed for the synthesis ofβ-alkoxypropionic acid esters: the carbonylation ofβ-alkoxyethylmercury acetates in an aliphatic alcohol medium, and from CO, C2H4 and Hg(OCOCH3)2 in an alcohol medium, either as a one-step or a two-step method. The best results were obtained with the two-step method.
