Triterpenoid saponins. Communication 12. Saponins from the roots of Kalopanax septemlobum (Thunb) (Koidz.)

    Two triterpenoid glycosides, named kalopanax saponin A and kalopanax saponin B, were isolated from the root cortex ofKalopanax septemlobum (Thunb.) (Koidz.).

  2. 2.

    Kalopanax saponin A is a hederagenin bioside, the carbohydrate part of which consists of arabinose and rhamnose residues attached to the genin in the 3- or 23-position. Kalopanax saponin B is a hederagenin penta-or hexa-oside in which the carbohydrate part consists of arabinose, rhamnose, and glucose residues, and the carbohydrate chain, or one of the carbohydrate chains, is bound to the carboxy group of the genin.
