Gas-phase thermal conversion in a series of cyclocarbosiloxanes

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The thermal conversions of six- and eight-membered cyclocarbosiloxanes, as well as certain structurally similar cyclosiloxanes and cyclocarbosilanes, were studied in the gas phase. Six-membered cyclocarbosiloxanes are more stable under the conditions of pyrolysis than the eight-membered forms; the basic direction of the decomposition of eight-membered cyclocarbosiloxanes is the formation of six-membered compounds.

    The possibility of the formation of cyclocarbosiloxane structures in the pyrolysis of certain cyclocarbosilanes in the presence of cyclosiloxanes or water vapor was demonstrated.

  3. 3.

    The thermal rearrangements of cyclocarbosiloxanes are explained on the basis of a mechanism including a cyclane transition state and the formation of labile intermediate compounds, capable of undergoing further conversions.
