Synthesis of dl-cysteic and 3-sulfoacrylic acids from 1,1,1,3-tetrachloropropane

    DL-Cysteic acid (3-sulfoalanine) was prepared by the ammonolysis of 2-chloro-3-sulfopropionic acid, which was synthesized from 1,1,1,3-tetrachloropropane.

    3-Sulfoacrylic acid was prepared by the dehydrochlorination of 2-chloro-3-sulfopropionic acid with alkali.

  3. 3.

    The addition of ammonia to 3-sulfoacrylic acid leads to cysteic acid.
