The electron spectra of 4,4′-diacetyldiphenyl oxide, 4,4′-diacetyldiphenyl sulfide and of the polyazines obtained from them were taken, and also of the 4,4′-diacetyldiphenyl ethers of ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol.
Oxygen and sulfur destroy the conjugation between phenyl rings.
The electrical conductivities of a number of diketones as a function of the temperature were measured, and it was shown that high activation energies of the conductivity are due to the presence of terminating heteroatoms.
