A comparative study was made of the reactions of cyclohexane, cyclopentane, and n-pentane with water on the catalyst Ni-Cr2O3 within the interval 260–340°.
The activity in the reaction with water varies in the series C5H12>C5H10>C6H12.
The curve of the temperature dependence of the reaction of cyclopentane with water possesses a point of inflection at 310–320° where the temperature coefficient of the reaction below the point of inflection is smaller than at higher temperatures; the activation energies are equal to 10.8 and 13.4 kcal/mole, respectively.
