Effect of copper on the structure and properties of Mg-Al-Zn alloys

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The addition of 0.5–0.8% Cu increases the strength characteristics of cast magnesium alloys. The corrosion resistance remains almost unchanged.

  2. 2.

    The addition of copper refines the Mg17Al12 phase, facilitating solution of this phase during heating, which leads to an improvement of the mechanical properties of cast magnesium alloys.
