Influence of nonferrous metals impurities on the structure and high temperature strength of nickel based foundry alloys

Conclusions

1. Nickel based alloys of the Ni plus 5% Cr plus 9% Co plus 12% W plus 1% Mo type with an equiaxial structure are more sensitive to nonferrous metal impurities than are alloys that are cast with a controlled structure. This effect is due to the structure formation characteristics for these alloys.

The most adverse effect is that due to impurities on the formation of a composite structure when the eutectic alloys are cast: the plane crystallization front loses stability due to concentrational supercooling and a cellular structure is formed, which results in a significant fall in the durability.
