Envelopes of rapidly rotating neutron stars

Abstract

Motivated by the discovery of the millisecond pulsars, we consider the effect of rapid rotation on the envelope of a neutron star. Solving the equation of hydrostatic equilibrium we find expressions for the density and oblateness as functions of radius and polar angle.
