Experimental dosimetric studies on the distribution of c14 labelled tobacco smoke in the hamster respiratory tract
Male and female Syrian golden hamsters were exposed to the smoke of C14 labelled cigarettes. The quantitative distribution of the total partioulate matter (TPM) in the different parts of the respiratory tract was determined by measuring the C14 activity in a liquid scintillation counter. Whole body autoradiograms were prepared from some animals. Distinct individual differences were demonstrated in the distribution of the TPM throughout the respiratory system. The significance of these results for experimental inhalation carcinogenesis is discussed.
