Quantitative analysis of caloric and post-rotatory nystagmus in man
Evaluation of the following parameters of caloric and postrotatory nystagmus (slow phase velocity, number of beats, duration of nystagmus and frequency) showed that besides slow phase velocity, duration of nystagmus and number of beats are the best criteria to be considered in vestibular examination. The range of variety of all these parameters in healthy subjects makes it inappropriate to use computers for automatical nystagmus analysis or standardized evaluation schemes. A progress in vestibular examination could be expected from recording the action potentials of single muscle fibers of the human m. splenius capitis unter vestibular stimulation.
