Research of saliva of patients with acute labyrinthipaties

Summary

The saliva of patients with acute labyrinthopathies (sudden deafness, M. Meniere) was gained by draining both of Stens' ducts with an ethylene tube. The saliva was collected every minute and the concentrations of sodium, potassium, calcium, amylase and total proteins was performed in every specimen. In most cases the salivary flow rate was reduced and the electrolyte- and amylase-concentration pattern was similar to an β-adrenergic stimulated saliva. Therapeutical consequences and experiences will be discussed.
