A New Gregarine, Pyxinia gibbii n. sp. Intestinal Parasite of Gibbium psylloides Czemp. (Col., Ptinidae)


A new eugregarine species inhabiting the mid-intestine of the hump beetle, Gibbium psylloides Czemp. is now described for the first time. An investigation was carried out to elucidate its life cycle and affinities with other gregarines. All of developmental stages except the sporocyst were found in the mid-intestine of the adult beetle. Ripe spores only were observed in the mid-gut of the larvae, whereas the pupae were infection-free. This gregarine is shown to be a new species of the genus Pyxinia for which the name Pyxinia gibbii n.sp. is proposed.


Eine neue Eugregarineart aus dem Mitteldarm des Käfers Gibbium psylloides Czemp. wird erstmalig beschrieben. Der Lebenszyklus der Gregarine und ihre Beziehung zu verwandten Arten werden dargelegt. Mit Ausnahme der Sporozyste wurden alle Entwicklungsstadien im Mitteldarm der erwachsenen Käfer gefunden. Reife Sporen lagen nur im Mitteldarm der Larven vor, während die Puppen parasitenfrei waren. Die neue Art wird zur Gattung Pyxinia gestellt und der Artname P. gibbii vorgeschlagen.
