Definition

The Team Climate Inventory (TCI) is a structured self-report measure designed to assess the “facet-specific climate for innovation within groups at work” based on four dimensions: vision, participant safety, task orientation, and support for innovation (Anderson and West 1998, p. 235).

Introduction

Based on research examining group climate and innovation in organizations, Anderson and West (1996, 1998) propose that the climate for innovation in work groups is linked to four factors that can be assessed by drawing on the shared perceptions of group members. The first factor, vision, refers to the concept of a valued outcome representing a motivating force at work and a higher order goal. Next, participative safety represents an environment which is perceived as interpersonally nonthreatening and encouraging active interaction and participation in decision-making.
