Special Issue on Intimate Partner Violence and Business
- Submission status
- Closed
The link between intimate partner violence (IPV) and business responsibility is under-investigated and under-theorized. This special issue brings ethical inquiry into how IPV impacts and is impacted by business. Based on a framework that distinguishes the assumed role of the organization (firm/market responsibility; socio-political responsibility) and ethical position (justice/fairness; ethics of care), Karam, Greenwood, Kauzlarich, O'Leary Kelly and Wilcox (2003) maps three contributions. First, Branicki, Kalfa, Pullen and Brammer (2023) explore institutional, stakeholder and organizational influences on corporate IPV responsiveness in Australia. Second, Scott (2023) questions the responsibility of financial institutions to recognize forms of IPV as financial abuse and to put in place policies and practices to mitigate this form of systemic harm. Third, Hearn, Hall, Lewis and Niemisto (2023) examine the intersection between digital and non-digital experiences of violence in the context of today’s blurring of work-life boundaries. Our call to action is for business ethics researchers and practitioners to embrace the discomfort and the challenges, explore and unpack the nuances and push forward the possibilities for effective and responsible interventions and preventions.
