This collection will bring together a series of short articles detailing jurisdictional needs for, and hurdles to, the application of New Breeding Technologies (NBT, or genome editing) in their respective countries' farming systems.
Authors are asked to:
A) formulate a problem statement for their jurisdiction (anywhere from a country to a continent) describing the predominant farming systems (subsistence through to commercial) and the current and perceived future challenges that they face (demographic changes, environmental uncertainties, productivity requirements, others...)
B) detail how NBT is/could impact these systems (positive and negative views equally welcome), with specific examples of products that are either currently employed or that would be appropriate. This can also include comments on any unmet needs (e.g. products that have yet to be developed but for which they can envisage demand)
C) comment on any perceived roadblocks to NBT implementation as well as decisions and circumstances that may have paved the way for its current use. This specifically includes comments on their jurisdiction with respect to legislation, public perception, trade concerns, accessibility, containment, traceability and what interventions/actions they believe are required to advance the endorsement of the technology
D) include a map that highlights their specific region of research. A template for this is provided; please contact Publishing Assistant Marie Kluge for further inquiries.
Ideally, articles should be limited to 1,500 words plus one figure or table, and references. Supplements are possible.
