Samenvatting
Het verloop van een revalidatieproces en de uitkomst daarvan worden beïnvloed door psychologische factoren. Van belang is bijvoorbeeld de mate waarin de patiënt gemotiveerd is om actief deel te nemen aan de therapie. Die motivatie wordt onder meer bepaald door de ziekteperceptie van de patiënt, door zijn interne of externe beheersingsoriëntatie (locus of control), zijn mate van eigen-effectiviteit (self-efficacy), zijn zelfwaardering en het al dan niet aanwezig zijn van sociale steun. Het leren van nieuwe vaardigheden of het herleren van verloren gegane vaardigheden wordt onder meer bepaald door de taakspanning, de stressbeleving en de arousal tijdens de therapie. Verder hebben depressie en angst een negatieve impact op het therapieproces. De fysiotherapeut dient zich bewust te zijn van deze psychologische factoren en dient er adequaat op in te spelen.
