Abstract
Lieke werd thuis geboren met een tijdens de zwangerschap niet-ontdekte spina bifida aperta. Zij werd met spoed naar een ziekenhuis vervoerd, waar ook een hartafwijking werd geconstateerd. Deze afwijking zou pas geopereerd kunnen worden als Lieke uitgegroeid zou zijn, en dan nog met slechts 10% kans van slagen. De beslissing tot wel of niet behandelen van de spina bifida moest direct genomen worden. Moeder lag met postpartumcomplicaties thuis. Vader besloot tot behandelen. Nog herinneren de ouders zich hoe moeilijk het te verwerken was dat moeder niet bij deze besluitvorming betrokken kon worden.
