Auf dem deutschen Zigarettenmarkt agieren vier große internationale Tabakkonzerne und außerdem einige kleinere Tabakwarenhersteller. Die Gesamtzahl der Beschäftigten sank von 19.000 im Jahr 1991 auf 11.000 im Jahr 2006.
