Dupuytren’s Disease and Related Hyperproliferative Disorders

Abstract

Trigger finger (TF) is a frequently observed problem in the hand surgical practice, as is Dupuytren’s disease (DD). The concomitant appearance of both problems may represent a special challenge for every surgeon, yet until now it has been underexposed in the literature. We report our experience with treatment of TF in 177 cases of which 13 had concomitant TF and DD. They were treated and followed for at least 1 year. In seven of these cases (54%) we saw recurrence of DD within this year. Reasons for this aberrant course in relation to the combined occurrence of TF and DD are discussed. Based on these experiences, recommendations are given for a more successful management of the combination of both diseases in various states of appearance.
