Zusammenfassung

Als »Anorexia nervosa« wird eine Erkrankung bezeichnet, bei der durch restriktives Essverhalten und andere Verhaltensweisen ein Gewichtsverlust herbeigeführt wird. Das Körpergewicht liegt mindestens 15 % unter dem für Geschlecht, Größe und Alter zu erwartenden Gewicht bzw. bei Erwachsenen unterhalb von 17,5 kg/m (Body-Mass-Index, BMI). Bei Kindern und Jugendlichen ist die Verwendung des BMI bzw. das Gewichtskriterium von 17,5 kg/m nicht angebracht. Vielmehr wird als Definitionskriterium hier ein Unterschreiten der 10. Altersperzentile vorgeschlagen (Herpertz-Dahlmann et al. 2005). Betroffene zeigen trotz bestehenden Untergewichts eine deutliche Angst, zu dick zu sein, und/oder ein ausgeprägtes Bestreben nach »Schlankheit«.
