Abstract
Nuclear medicine provides important information in the diagnosis and management of several cardiovascular disorders. It provides a noninvasive means for evaluation of cardiac function. Radionuclide imaging of myocardial perfusion is a commonly performed nuclear medicine examination to determine the adequacy of blood flow to the myocardium, especially in conjunction with exercise or pharmacologic stress for the detection and evaluation of coronary artery disease. Myocardial perfusion studies are obtained using one isotope commonly Tc99m compounds, dual isotope technique along with thalium-201,or more recently positron emission tomography which has added value in evaluation of myocardial metabolism for evaluation of myocardial viability. Nuclear medicine also helps in the diagnosis of hemangioma and lymphedema.
