Abstract
Hepatic reactions from NSAIDs are usually observed at prescription level dosage with marked variations being evident with different drugs. Paracetamol and diclofenac are amongst the most frequent drugs associated with alterations in plasma concentrations of biomarker liver enzymes, this being less so with ibuprofen. Data from epidemiological investigations and clinical trials have given comparisons of the different rates of occurrence of liver reactions from NSAIDs, coxibs and paracetamol at both prescription and OTC dosages. Aspects of drug interactions with anti-rheumatic drugs as well as safety in children are reviewed.
