Abstract
You are asked to review a 39 year old woman on the antenatal ward. She is 33 weeks into her first ongoing pregnancy. She suffered a miscarriage at 9weeks’ gestation in her first pregnancy 2 years ago. She booked with a blood pressure of 136/78 mmHg and urinalysis was negative. Her antenatal course has been uneventful and she had a normal anomaly scan at 20 weeks. She was admitted from the antenatal clinic 3 days ago because she was found to have 1+ proteinuria and her blood pressure was 148/96 mmHg. Since admission, her blood pressure has ranged from 132–154 mmHg systolic and 86–104 mmHg diastolic. She has received no treatment since admission. Blood tests performed on admission revealed the following results: Haemoglobin (Hb): 13.1 g/dl Platelet: 152 × 109/l Creatinine: 86 µmol/l ALT: 23 iu/l AlkP: 210 iu/l Bilirubin: 9 µmol/l Albumin: 25 g/l Uric acid: 0.39 mmol/l
