Abstract

Nanosized strontium zirconate (SrZrO3) was prepared from its oxalate precursor, strontium zirconyl oxalate (SZO). Thermal decomposition of SZO precursor was studied using thermogravimetry, differential thermal analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques. SZO precursor calcined at 700 °C for 2 h gives nanosized SrZrO3 powder. Transmission electron microscope study shows that SrZrO3 particles prepared at 700 °C are nearly spherical in shape with diameter varies between 15 and 30 nm. Particle size study was carried out to investigate the particle size distribution of SrZrO3. Band gap of SrZrO3 was estimated from UV–visible spectrophotometry data. Dielectric behavior of SrZrO3 was studied.
